Skydiving is so much more than the descriptions you’ve read before. Many people experience skydiving as a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, usually as a tandem. But did you know, skydiving is a regular hobby for thousands of people here in the US?
Here’s what skydivers really love about skydiving.
Part of the joy of skydiving is the community that surrounds it. When you jump out of an airplane with someone, you’re putting a lot of trust in them as well as having a fantastic shared experience.
At the end of a day’s jumping, skydivers like to stay at the drop zone and enjoy an evening together. They go out for meals or stick around at the DZ bar, often watching videos of the day’s jumps and talking about what they’ve done.
The skydiving community is full of really strong friendships too. Skydivers know they can rely on one another in the sky and on the ground.
There are tons of traditions in skydiving that have evolved over the years many of which can be seen across the country and even further.
For example, stop by any drop zone and you’re likely to see funky handshakes and fist bumps before every jump. Skydivers do this as a way of saying ‘Have a great jump’ so it’s a nice tradition to carry on.
Other traditions like beer fines are a lot of fun too. Whenever a milestone is reached or someone does a ‘first’ – like qualifying as a skydiver, achieving a new qualification, or first time jumping a new kit – that person buys beers for everyone.
The ‘beer line’ tradition is founded on safety. This is a line, sometimes marked out, otherwise invisible, which runs along the edge of the landing area to separate it from any hazards. Anyone landing on the wrong side of the beer line has to buy beer – a great incentive to stay on the safe side!
It’s rare to find a skydiver feeling stressed at the drop zone. Skydiving is all about doing something you love and putting your heart and soul into it.
It also gives you a new perspective. When you’ve taken the (literal) leap of jumping from an airplane, you feel like there’s nothing you can’t achieve.
Skydiving is the most fun. It’s unlike anything you’ve done before and it will change the way you look at life.
If you’d like to give it a go, or you’re an experienced skydiver who already knows why we love this sport so much, we’d love to welcome you here at Skydive Tecumseh.
I drove more than 2 hours to jump with Tecumseh because I wanted a reputable company and I was not disappointed. They were very safety minded and professional. The staff was very friendly and made the whole experience fun! If you're only doing it once, pay the extra and get the video package. Very well done, you won't be disappointed.
